Aims & scope

The EGU General Assembly 2020 will bring together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth, planetary and space sciences. The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists, especially early career researchers, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience. The EGU is looking forward to cordially welcoming you in Vienna.

Green EGU

EGU calls on all participants and exhibitors to do their part in minimizing the environmental footprint of the EGU General Assembly and achieving more sustainability of the conference. Please visit our Green EGU website.

Mentoring programme

EGU supports first-time conference attendees by pairing them with mentors who can help them to navigate the General Assembly, and provide opportunities to build connections within the Earth, planetary and space science communities. Please sign up by the 8 March deadline.

Invitation to the opening and closing receptions

The EGU General Assembly kicks off it's five-day programme with the opening reception in Foyer F on Sunday, 3 May, from 18:30 to 21:00. Directly following the final sessions of Friday, 8 May, EGU hosts a closing reception with drinks and food served in the poster halls from 18:00 to 20:00.

Open letter to funding agencies regarding presentations at EGU meetings

The EGU has issued an open letter to funding agencies and evaluation committees with information on the assessment of presentations given at its scientific meetings. The letter details the three presentation types given at the EGU General Assembly and states that the selection of the type of presentation is not based on any evaluation of the scientific value of the contribution. As highlighted in a previous EGU statement, the letter also emphasises that there is no distinction regarding the standing, quality or prestige of oral, poster, or PICO presentations. [Read more]

Take advantage of the special discount to visit the NHM

The Natural History Museum Vienna (NHM) kindly offers all participants a special discount of 50% on the entrance fee by showing their conference name badge when buying a ticket. This discount is valid during the conference; please note that the museum is closed on Tuesdays.
